Saying Goodbye to Mama James

February 11, 2015

Salome Wangui, known to us as “Mama James,” passed away this week following a severe asthma attack. Salome was a wife, mother to 12 children, and a Back to Africa bead artisan. She was a shy person, but was always ready with a smile. Help our Artisan Mary rebuild her life

March 08, 2014

Our artisan, Mary, experienced a fire in her home on March 5, which destroyed most of her possessions. Our featured items for March, found on our website home page,  are all assembled by Mary.  She is an important part of our team. Purchase any of these items between now and March 17th with the code "MARY" and 50% of your purchase will go to help Mary rebuild her life.   You may also make a donation to our NEW disaster relief fund, which will allow us to help Mary and other artisans in a time of crisis. The items listed here in the March Makeover collection will apply to the relief fund. (http://backtoafrica.myshopify.com/) Check back with us for updates as we look forward...

I will not leave you as orphans....

April 25, 2012

One of the best things about my job is travelling to Africa.  I had the joy of getting to visit for six weeks this winter. My primary responsibility is working with the Back to Africa staff, which is always a joy.  But today I wanted to tell you a little bit about House of Hope, the children’s home in Kenya that we help support with the jewelry sales.      Lisa Hovingh, one of the Heart of the Bride missionaries to Kenya, goes weekly to the home to do a Bible Study, not only with the older kids as HoH, but also with the “Mamas”, the amazing dedicated women that serve the needs of the 25 children there.
